MSUP DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

M.S. in Urban Planning: 27 points in required courses and 33 points in electives of students’ own choosing (12 points of which must be UP electives). Students may take courses offered in the Urban Planning Program; the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation; or other departments and schools at Columbia to fulfill some or all of their elective requirements. Each student is required to complete a Master’s thesis or professional capstone during the second year of study.

In place of the current four concentrations, we will have a more flexible structure of curriculum clusters for which we will share detailed information with students. Instead of requiring students to complete at least 12 points in a concentration, we will mandate at least 12 points of elective coursework from the Urban Planning program in addition to 27 points of required coursework.
