Beginning with the rethinking of the organization of rooms, this project proposes a new spatial type for housing that is composed of layers of rooms that aims to create a sharing community. We propose to reorganize rooms into three layers based on their function and their level of privacy. The private layer has separate bedrooms and bathrooms; the middle layer is designed as enfilade where the boundary of rooms is negotiated and blurred to ensure access from different private bedrooms; the public layer is completely room-less, where boundaries of communal activities are loosely prescribed by islands of furniture. Sharing increases as one moves from the private to the public layer. This spatial setup allows endless possibilities of sharing by merging and dividing rooms in the same layer without compromising the functions of others. As a result, one lives across all layers for different functions and experiences.
