Belvedere Castle Conceptual by Peter Maxwell Martin and Marcos Garcia Mouronte

Belvedere Castle Conceptual

After creating a permanently wet environment, Belvedere Castle begins to erode and lichen proliferates. This composite organism changes color in the presence of sulfur dioxide. Therefore, air pollution can be monitored from the vantage point of 432 Park Avenue. The design intervention is informed by the history of the Castle: a building originally conceived to be a ruin, is under constant restoration, and hosted NYC’s first weather station.
