Adjunct Assistant Professor

L.D. Salmanson is the Founder and CEO of Cherre, the leading real estate data management platform that unifies disparate data sources into a single trusted and secure foundation. Cherre supports the management of nearly $4 trillion in AUM globally for many of the world’s largest asset managers, banks, and insurance companies. With its proprietary Universal Data Model, Semantic Data Layer, and Knowledge Graph, Cherre enables clients to leverage one of the industry’s largest networks of real estate data, application, and service providers, unlocking holistic investment and asset management decision making with confidence. L.D.’s work has consistently emphasized applied data systems in real assets. He is a named inventor on multiple patents focused on strengthening the technical foundations of institutional data quality and identity resolution, and he has published on emerging technology themes in real estate in leading journals.

Before founding Cherre, L.D. co-founded Greencrest Capital, which was acquired by Oppenheimer & Co. Following the acquisition, he joined Oppenheimer to co-lead the Private Shares Group, working directly with some of the largest private companies in the world at the time, including Facebook, Twitter, and Uber. Earlier, he was a Principal at Knight Capital Group, and he has advised companies at pivotal moments, including serving as a Strategic Advisor to Sirenum, which was acquired by Bullhorn.

Alongside building Cherre, L.D. is active in academic and industry education. He has served as a Lecturer at the Wharton Zell/Lurie Real Estate Center, MIT’s Real Estate Innovation Lab, NYU Schack Institute of Real Estate, and other leading academic institutions, teaching Data Science and Machine Learning for Real Estate. He is also a frequent speaker and participant in industry forums focused on AI, data, fintech, and the digital transformation of real estate, with invited talks and presentations including Goldman Sachs, Google, Microsoft, Intel, ULI, MIPIM, CRETech, Commercial Observer, and Inman.

His work and leadership have been recognized by multiple industry organizations. He was named Founder of the Year at the CRETech Real Estate Tech Awards (2024), and he was included on Commercial Observer’s Power Proptech List (2024). Additional recognitions include Crain’s New York Business “Notables in Real Estate” (2022) and MPA Magazine’s “The Mavericks of Commercial Real Estate” (2021).

L.D. holds an MBA in Finance from The Wharton School, where he was a Joseph Wharton Fellowship recipient. He also holds an LL.M. (magna cum laude) in International Business Law, an LL.B. (magna cum laude), and a B.A. in Finance (magna cum laude) from IDC Herzliya (Reichman University). He is based in New York.
