Dean’s Visiting Associate Professor

Iñaki Echeverria is an architect and entrepreneur based in Mexico City. His practice specializes in the application of techniques commonly associated to science, ecology, and technology as an opportunity for design innovation of buildings, landscape, and infrastructure.

From November 2018 to December 2025, he was appointed by Presidents Sheinbaum and López Obrador as Director General and Principal Designer of the Texcoco Lake Ecological Park: an ambitious social and environmental health and justice project based on blue, green, and bio-cultural infrastructure that is almost 3x the size of Manhattan, set in the Mexico City Valley. In this position, he was responsible for design, engineering, science, socialization, construction, administration, and jump-starting operations. A task that involved 13,000+ people.

His eponymous firm has worked on many other high-profile projects, both private and public: the Children’s Museum in Monterrey, Pasta de Conchos Victim`s Memorial, Coatzacoalcos Central Park, Atlacomulco Park, the Villa Allende coastline park, facades for luxury retailer Liverpool, diverse mix-use and housing buildings in Mexico City and Puerto Vallarta.

His work has been published widely in diverse media like: Al-Jazeera, Wired, Fast Company, MIT Technology Review, Smithsonian Magazine, Ensia, Architects Newspaper, Werk, and Arquine; it has been showcased at MoMA NYC, Aedes Berlin, UIA-Durban, Blauraum-IBA-Hamburg, IBA-Heidelberg, the Mexican Lottery, Leibnitz Hannover, TEC, Anahuac, and UNAM universities to name a few.

Echeverria is a 2026 Dean’s Visiting Associate Professor at Columbia GSAPP and has taught design at Harvard, UPenn, UNAM, TEC, Ibero, and Aedes Berlin.
