Chris Munsell

Christopher Munsell is a University Senator and the Glascock Associate Professor of Professional Practice of Real Estate Development Finance at Columbia GSAPP. He is a member of the University Senate Budget Committee and the Campus Planning and Physical Development Committee. Chris also serves as an elected member of the Dean’s Advisory Committee at GSAPP.

Chris has been featured for his innovations in the hybrid learning environment and for his research on artificial intelligence, real estate investment management, and housing. He is a regular speaker on capital markets, climate finance, structured finance, and real estate pedagogy with organizations that include PropTech Norway, the Asian Real Estate Association of America, the American Real Estate Society, Women in Real Estate Development (WiRED), Opal Group, MSRED Alumni Inc., and the Center for Teaching and Learning at Columbia University. Chris is the founder of Distinguished Leaders, a speaker series within the real estate finance core curriculum, where c-suite executives engage with students on current issues.

Chris is an institutionally recognized investment professional and expert in housing with nearly two decades in practice, beginning with providing access to HUD, Fannie Mae, and other affordability programs, and progressing through commercial banking to private equity. He has structured and managed more than \$3 billion in real estate across all asset types and in more than 20 states. As a consultant, he is relied upon by institutions for his expertise in capital structure and real estate finance, with clients ranging from technology startups and family offices to Fortune 100 companies.

Chris is an Executive Board Member of the Real Estate Network of the Columbia Alumni Association and is also a member of the Urban Land Institute, the Commercial Real Estate Finance Council, the International Council of Shopping Centers, the American Real Estate Society, the Pension Real Estate Association, and the National Council of Real Estate Investment Fiduciaries. He is also an appointed member of the Boston University Real Estate Committee.

Chris holds a Master of Science in Real Estate Development from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Boston University.
