James Nanasca

James is a Computational Designer and Director of the Fabrication Labs (Making Studio) at Columbia GSAPP. He specializes in architectural design, computational methods, and digital fabrication, blending technology and architecture to explore innovative forms of representation and physical output. Passionate about the practice of fabrication as a cultural artifact, James integrates making and computational processes into his explorations to push his design research. Formerly Director of Design Technologies at New Bedford Research & Robotics, he has expertise in robotic fabrication, mixed reality, and CNC machining. James has published research papers in architectural journals, has taught Augmented Reality and Fabrication workshops at UMass Dartmouth and Pratt Institute, and holds a Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute.
