Mireia Luzárraga

Mireia Luzárraga is an architect, researcher, educator, and curator. She is Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Core I sequence at Columbia University GSAPP, where she previously served as Dean’s Visiting Professor. She is also co-founder and co-principal of TAKK, an architecture and research practice based between Barcelona and New York, together with Alejandro Muiño.

Her work explores architecture as a cultural, political, and ecological practice capable of imagining alternative futures. Through architectures, interiors, exhibitions, and installations, she develops design methodologies that bring contemporary critical thought into architectural production, integrating feminism, queer ecologies, posthuman studies, and low-embodied-carbon material practices with material experimentation and construction. Working across multiple scales—from domestic interiors to public installations—her projects investigate new relationships between bodies, climates, resources, technologies, and more-than-human forms of life, proposing architecture as a catalyst for more just, resilient, and environmentally engaged ways of living.

Alongside her work at Columbia, Luzárraga has served as Studio Critic at the SEKISUI HOUSE–KENGO KUMA Lab at the University of Tokyo (2024) and as Master Tutor at the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in Barcelona (2012-2022). She lectures internationally and has been invited to institutions including Harvard GSD, MIT, ETH Zürich, Kyoto University, the Royal Academy of Arts, the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, Die Angewandte Vienna, and the Inda Bangkok University.

Luzárraga is co-editor of 100 Words for Water (Lars Müller Publishers), an interdisciplinary publication bringing together more than one hundred architects, scientists, philosophers, artists, and activists to rethink water as a political, ecological, and cultural agent. In 2025, she co-curated the Catalan contribution to the 19th International Architecture Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia. In 2026, MAXXI – Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo in Rome presented the first institutional solo exhibition dedicated to TAKK’s work, and Korean architecture magazine C3 published a monographic issue on the practice.
