Jonathan Martin

Jonathan Martin has been an Adjunct Professor in the Urban Planning Program at Columbia GSAPP since 2006. After working professionally in architecture in Phoenix, Arizona, he earned graduate degrees in urban planning at Cornell University, where he focused on land use, urban design and housing affordability. Jonathan is also a tenured full professor at Pratt Institute’s Graduate Center for Planning and the Environment in Brooklyn, where he teaches a range of courses from studios to advanced planning methods, as well as urban design and planning courses in Japan and Denmark. In 2019, Jonathan received a Fulbright Fellowship to conduct research and lecture in Japan at Tokyo Institute of Technology.

Bringing over 25 years of professional and academic experience in design, architecture and planning, Jonathan has lived and worked in the New York metro area since 2004. His professional experience ranges from planning and urban design to architecture and furniture design. He is a senior associate at BFJ Planning, one of New York metro’s leading planning and real estate development consults, where he specializes in urban design, physical and comprehensive planning, and planning facilitation. His recent New York City placed projects include planning facilitations for South Street Seaport (2014), East Midtown Rezoning (2015), and the Envision SoHo/NoHo Community Engagement Process (2019).
