Carol Clark

Carol Clark is Adjunct Professor in the Historic Preservation program at Columbia GSAPP, where she teaches “Neighborhood Preservation and Zoning” and acts as a thesis advisor and reader in the Historic Preservation Program during the Spring 2016 semester. Her academic interests include preservation planning, policy and law. A long-term member of the adjunct faculty, she has led the Preservation Studio, taught Preservation Planning, co-taught in the New York Paris Program, and guided many preservation, planning and real estate students through their thesis projects.

Her professional career is centered on issues of land use, real estate development, planning and preservation. Currently, she is a Director in the Office of the Chief Architect at NYC’s Department of Design and Construction. In 2012-15, she served as a Deputy Commissioner in the NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. From 2010-12 she was an Assistant Commissioner in NYC’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development. Previously, she was President of the Brooklyn Historical Society, Executive Director of the AIA New York Chapter, and held positions with the NYC’s Department of City Planning, the Municipal Art Society and the NY Landmarks Conservancy.

She holds a MS in Historic Preservation from Columbia, and a BA from the University of Michigan where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She has an extensive record of service in civic affairs, holding positions with local and national preservation organizations.
