The HOBRA-A exhibition presents the projects developed by Pedro Varella and Sjoerd ter Borg in the context of the HOBRA -Residência Artística Holanda Brasil, which took place on account of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

Throughout almost two months, HOBRA – ARTISTIC RESIDENCY NETHERLANDS BRAZIL has gathered together 21 artists from multiple areas - active in both countries - in a collaborative artistic experience. The first thirty days were made of exchanging ideas through the internet. In the past twenty days, the interaction has deepened with the arrival of the Dutch delegates to Rio de Janeiro. They were all stimulated to produce works together, a prolific exchange that has resulted in the pieces of work here presented to the public. Naturally, being a project with an integration character, the creations investigate multidisciplinary issues, concepts and languages.

The works MAP, THE VISITOR and VISIBLE were developed between July 11 and 31 and are set here to present to the public the result of the three weeks of collaboration between the pair, Varella and Borg.

The process was led by TEMPO_FESTIVAL, Rio de Janeiro’s International Performing Arts Festival. Through them, a team of curators and a provocateur were invited to oversee the residency. Studio-X Rio was invited to support the architectural project, which had its director, Pedro Rivera, as curator.

In charge of HOBRA, from the Dutch side, was DutchCulture, a strategic consultancy agency for international cooperation, which creates activities around the world. HOBRA is a collaborative effort from six Dutch cultural funds: Performing Arts Fund, Cultural Participation Fund, MondriaanFund, Netherlands Film Fund, Dutch Foundation for Literature and Creative Industries Fund NL.

A exposição HOBRA-A apresenta os projetos desenvolvidos por Pedro Varella e Sjoerd ter Borg no contexto da HOBRA - Residência Artística Holanda Brasil, que aconteceu por conta dos Jogos Olímpicos Rio 2016.

Ao longo de quase dois meses, a residência reuniu 21 artistas de múltiplas áreas – entre brasileiros, holandeses e radicados na Holanda – em uma experiência artística colaborativa. O primeiro mês foi de troca de ideias pela internet. Nos últimos vinte dias, a interação se aprofundou com a chegada dos representantes da Holanda ao Rio de Janeiro. Todos foram estimulados a produzir trabalhos em conjunto, um intercâmbio prolífico que resultou em 26 obras. Naturalmente, sendo um projeto com um caráter de integração, as criações investigam questões, conceitos e linguagens multidisciplinares.

Os trabalhos MAPA, O VISITANTE e VISÍVEL são resultado das três semanas de colaboração entre a dupla Pedro Varella e Sjoerd ter Borg, que se dedicou ao campo da arquitetura.

O processo foi capitaneado pelo TEMPO_FESTIVAL, o Festival Internacional de Artes Cênicas do Rio de Janeiro. Através dele, um time de curadores e um provocador foram convidados para acompanhar a residência. O Studio-X Rio foi convidado a apoiar o projeto na área da arquitetura, que teve seu diretor, Pedro Rivera, como curador.

Do lado holandês, a HOBRA é realizada pelo DutchCulture, agência consultora estratégica para cooperação internacional que cria atividades mundo afora. HOBRA é um esforço colaborativo de seis fundos culturais holandeses: Performing Arts Fund, Cultural Participation Fund, Mondriaan Fund, Netherlands Film Fund, Dutch Foundation for Literature e Creative Industries Fund NL.
