About the Doryan Winkelman ’86 MSRED Real Estate Development Lecture
The Doryan Winkelman ’86 MSRED Real Estate Development Lecture (the Winkelman Lecture) is an annual lecture for the M.S.RED Program on the topic of international real estate development. Drawing on Columbia University’s vast network of global leaders and prominent practitioners, the Winkelman Lecture brings together esteemed guests, faculty and students to introduce and examine key issues surrounding the complex demands of global urban real estate development.

The Winkelman Lecture was established in 2018 by Doryan Winkelman ‘86 MSRED.


About Daniel Chang '99 MSUP '99BU
Since 2021 Daniel Chang has been the European Lead for Sustainability at Hines.

Daniel joined Hines in July 1999 as Development Manager and held that role until 2009, working on the development of a broad range of buildings, including the development of the 4,320-square-meter Salustiano luxury residential in Madrid; the 27,000-square-meter Benrather Karree office building in Düsseldorf; and the 33,000-square-meter Illa del Llac residential complex in Barcelona. He began his career at Hines as Assistant Construction Manager of the 50,000-square-meter EDF office tower in Paris.

From 2009 until 2021, Daniel was an Investment Manager at Hines and worked closely with the Hines European Core Fund (HECF) and two other Separate Accounts, coordinating all asset management activities of the Funds with local Hines asset managers. He also coordinated the HECF valuations and spearheaded the Fund’s sustainability strategy and its implementation, including the funds submission into the GRESB survey.

Daniel continues to play a key part in the success of Hines’ European Funds with 5 European flagship funds being awarded Global Sector Leaders in GRESB in 2024, as well as winning the PREA ESG awards for the last 5 consecutive years.

Daniel sits on the Advisory Board for the ULI Randall Lewis Center for Sustainability in Real Estate, which is dedicated to creating healthy, resilient, and high-performance communities around the world. Daniel is also part of the C Change steering committee and is the current co-chair of ULI’s Sustainability Council in Europe.

Prior to Hines, Daniel worked as an architect at Architecture Studio in Paris. Daniel holds a BSc in Architecture from the University of Maryland and an MBA and MS in Urban Planning from Columbia University.
