This project inspired by the shift toward open-source systems and is an investigation into the future of energy infrastructure in the United States from 2020 to 2050 and beyond. And it’s understood through the emerging cultural, political, and technological shift toward a Post-Capitalist economy. In this framework, the project aimed not strictly to design the specifics of a future architecture, but rather the apparatus within which new architectures will emerge. The project proposes that in an ever-increasingly connected and globalizing world, the opportunity for hyper-local intervention is increasing, not decreasing. Through rigorous mapping, data-analytics, projections, animations, renders, and the production of a working augmented reality (AR) iPad application, this project produces a wide variety of representations of the current and future life of the fueling station, and the role of the architect in re-imagining such places.
