Metro, Myna and the Mula-Mutha: How Pune’s Metro Can Become an Initiator for Ecological Restoration, Improved Livelihood and Habitat Expansion
What if Pune’s new Metro could initiate ecological restoration, improve livelihood and expand habitat? Our proposal is for nature-based infrastructure that initiates opportunities for transformative units to trigger habitat expansion and generate livelihood across Pune. Addressing challenges of sanitation, sewage overflow and waste, community toilets seed micro-forests, holding tanks generate productive landscapes, and filtration ponds restore the ecology of the Mula-Mutha, allowing Pune to become a truly resilient and livable city. By proposing micro-units our project harness the agency of local stewards while leveraging the social corporate responsibility of the current Metro. Together, these field of interventions have a large impact on shaping a Pune for the 21st-century.
