My project investigates the environmental impact of winter tourism in Vail, Colorado—particularly the use of artificial snow and its connection to parametric insurance—and proposes a sustainable intervention that physically preserves snow to reduce carbon emissions and water usage. By repurposing existing mountain technologies like snow blankets and winched snowcats, the design aims to store snow during warmer months, reduce reliance on artificial snow by at least 50%, and foster a more responsible, seasonally adaptive relationship with the natural landscape.
