Senso-scape

The project envisions a transformative redesign of Avery Hall’s studio spaces at GSAPP, addressing existing limitations of rigid layouts and lack of collaboration opportunities. By integrating systematic and spatial innovations, the proposal reimagines the environment to support diverse learning styles and foster creativity. The introduction of additional studio schedules helps optimize space utilization while accommodating various lifestyles, while portable technological equipment liberates students from the rigidity of the existing studio layout, enabling mobility and adaptability. Spatially, the intervention introduces an interplay between negative spaces—fluid pathways for movement and displays—and positive sensory zones tailored for focused work, collaboration, or relaxation. These zones, enriched with tactile, visual, and acoustic elements, allow students to choose environments that align with their needs, enhancing productivity and organic social interactions. By balancing functionality and sensory diversity, the redesign transforms Avery Hall into a dynamic hub that adapts to modern educational and social demands, building a vibrant, collaborative community for future GSAPP.
