Breaking the Cycle: Learning from the Past to Reimagine a New Energy Future

Our proposal tackles information distribution to multiple audiences by using a flexible and moveable interactive exhibit and a long-lasting website to distribute information on energy resources. Past key issues in energy transitions have included the complex history of energy disparity, how past energy transitions interacted with redevelopment and displacement, the need for trust-building with the community for equitable changes in the built environment, and a lack of engagement from landlords. As we enter a new phase of energy transition to renewable resources, some of the mistakes of former energy transitions are being repeated in Harlem. To counter the repetition of these issues, we propose to create an interactive experience for the community to connect with the energy history of Harlem while also providing resources for a new sustainable future.
