Public Building No1

In order to accommodate a growing population and serious housing needs in the community, the existing PS64 is restored and redeveloped into residential units with shared workspaces, kitchens, and social programming. The ‘public’ as a user is present within the circulation, in the structure and activation of gathering spaces. A basketball court is a performance hall is a meeting room is a food pantry is a birthday venue. The multivalent design creates various uses and economies of space. The public enters at various registers within the building. Using means of real estate development, there is leverage to provide over 200 new housing units with 80% affordable.
