The construction of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway (BQE) in 1954 tore the communities on both sides apart and blocked the approach to the waterfront of the residents of Brooklyn Heights. The project aims to bridge and reconnect Brooklyn Heights communities to each other and the waterfront and reclaim the views occupied by the luxury condominium. Meanwhile, it connects the Brooklyn Promenade and the BQE, building the connection vertically and horizontally, creating the dynamic relationship of all layers, and providing communications. Moreover, it’s a way to save the BQE in disrepair instead of tearing it down. The project is carried out in three phases: now (Gathering), soon (Reconnecting), and eventually (Gaining back).
