GSAPP receives $100,000 grant from the IDC Foundation to establish the Hilyard Robinson Scholars Fund supporting full-tuition scholarships for Intro to Architecture students

4 June 2021
Donor Profile

Columbia GSAPP is pleased to announce that it has received a grant from the IDC Foundation to establish the Hilyard Robinson Scholars Program offering full tuition scholarships for Intro to Architecture summer program students. Named in honor of the School’s first African American graduate and former chair of the architecture department at Howard University, Hilyard Robinson scholarships are specifically aimed at domestic undergraduate students currently enrolled in Historically Black Colleges and Universities, CUNY, or SUNY schools, and are intended to promote access and inclusion by introducing career paths in architecture and its related fields.

Since the Summer 2021 session, the Robinson Scholars Program has provided scholarship and non-tuition financial aid support for up to ten students who complete an application through the admissions portal.

2025 Intro Program

The 2025 Intro to Architecture program allows students to chose from an academic focus on Architecture, Historic Preservation, Real Estate, and Urban Planning. The Architecture focus is offered in person or online, Urban Planning and Historic Preservation are offered in person, and Real Estate is offered online.

Applications for the 2025 Intro program are accepted on a rolling basis through early June. Students will be invited to apply for the Hilyard Robinson Scholars Fund following their admission to the program.

IDC Foundation

The IDC Foundation is a legacy of the Institute of Design and Construction, the former Brooklyn-based, nonprofit, technical college that educated more than 30,000 students between its founding in 1947 and its voluntary closing in 2015. The Foundation focuses particularly on funding transformational programmatic initiatives that promote innovative approaches to education and enhance the learning experiences of students in fields relating to architectural design, engineering, and building construction. It does so by providing grants to institutions of higher education in Greater New York City.
