The Business of Architecture with Brian Messana from Messana O'Rorke

Brian Messana,‘92 M.Arch will discuss the business of architecture from the perspective of owning an architectural firm with offices in NYC and Hudson, NY, and the sustainable business practices that have kept Messana O`Rorke successful for the last 30 years.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Messana earned his master’s degree from Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation in New York in 1992 and a Bachelor’s in Architecture from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo in 1989. He moved to New York in 1990 and worked for the architecture firms of Peter Marino Architect, Asymptote Architecture, and Richard Meier & Partners before founding his eponymous firm. He is on the board of the Society of American Registered Architects and the Board of Trustees of Les Ecoles D’art Americaines de Fontainebleau, which he attended in summer 1987. Messana has taught architecture courses at Columbia University, Pratt Institute, University of Texas at Austin, University of Southwestern Louisiana at Lafayette, and is currently an adjunct professor at New York Institute of Technology’s School of Architecture and Design. Brian is licensed to practice in New York, New Jersey, California, and Pennsylvania. In 2025, Messana was elevated to the College of Fellows by the American Institute of Architects. AIA Fellows are recognized for their exceptional work and contributions to architecture and society.
