Update on the Start of the Spring 2022 Semester

January 3, 2022

Dear GSAPP Faculty, Researchers, and Administrators:

Happy New Year. Wishing all the best to you and your family as we begin 2022. Below are important updates in preparation for a successful start to the Spring 2022 semester.

Faculty, researchers, and administrators should have already completed return-to-campus safety protocols, including the ReopenCU app that is required to access campus. Additionally, the University has implemented a COVID-19 Booster Mandate. GSAPP administrators will be on remote operations the first two weeks of January 2022. Beginning January 18, 2022, administrative staff are to return to providing in-person services as per their supervisor approved rotating schedule. Additionally, instructional activity for all faculty, staff, and students will be conducted remotely the first two weeks of the Spring 2022 semester. Since GSAPP’s instructional semester begins January 18, 2022, GSAPP will return to in-person instruction on February 1, 2022. At that time, classrooms will be at full capacity and classes will be conducted face-to-face in campus classrooms.

Below are some key COVID-19 requirements that are critical to maintaining in-person activities, which are enabled by our vaccine mandate, and our indoor face-covering protocol provides a further layer of protection as the semester takes shape. Foremost among these is that at all times, including when off campus, Columbia community members are expected to follow the Columbia Community Health Compact. Safe behaviors are just as critical when away from campus, which minimize the risk of disruption to on-campus activity and ensure the safety of our community.

The University is monitoring COVID-19 risk in our community and adjusting safety protocols accordingly. You are encouraged to check the University’s COVID-19 Resource Guide regularly for status updates, including FAQs, as well as the below resources.

Columbia GSAPP’s COVID-19 Website

  • GSAPP’s COVID-19 website includes communications, resources, and information for the GSAPP community related to the impact of COVID-19.
  • GSAPP’s Hybrid Pedagogy Resource Guide serves as a resource for GSAPP faculty to learn more about Hybrid Pedagogy.
    • For questions, please email GSAPP Academic Affairs (academicaffairs@arch.columbia.edu).
    • For GSAPP IT support, please email askGSAPPIT@columbia.edu.

If you have any questions or have trouble completing any of the required steps in the University return to campus protocols, do not hesitate to reach out to the:

  • Faculty Affairs Office at facultyaffairs@arch.columbia.edu (for faculty and researchers)
  • Dean’s Office at deansoffice@arch.columbia.edu (for administrators and staff)

Thank you for your cooperation and efforts and welcome to the Spring 2022 semester.

Best Regards,
Janet Reyes
